Second Annual Color Fun Run: A Day of Tribute and Togetherness

Organized by teachers Stacy Galiyas and Bree Thompson, the West Mifflin Area Middle School SAVE Promise Club, Student Activities, and Student Council, the Second Annual Color Fun Run brought together more than 300 students, staff, families, and community members on April 25 for an afternoon of energy, unity, and purpose.

Held on a beautiful spring day, the event marked the start of Mental Health Awareness Month with a 5K course designed to promote kindness, inclusion, and wellness. Participants of all ages walked, jogged, and laughed their way through vibrant color stations, embodying the spirit of community and support the student groups work so hard to support.

This year’s run was dedicated to the memory of beloved school counselor Julie Hickey (1968–2024), whose impact continues to resonate throughout the school. Her son delivered a heartfelt tribute, offering a glimpse into her warmth and dedication, and by former colleagues who shared touching memories of her compassion and commitment to students.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the SAVE Promise Club, Student Activities, and Student Council. In addition, a portion will be donated in Mrs. Hickey's name to a charity of the family's choice. Funds will also go toward purchasing library books on kindness, inclusion, and wellness—values Mrs. Hickey championed throughout her career.

A big Titan thank-you goes out to our generous sponsors—US Steel, West Mifflin Federation of Teachers, AHN Burn Unit, West Mifflin Community Foundation, Champions, and P3R—for helping make this special day possible.
