The Titan Evolution Baseball & Softball Complex is officially open! This month, the West Mifflin Area School District (WMASD) celebrated with music, competition, and community spirit as it unveiled its newly renovated athletic facilities.
The afternoon began with a vibrant performance by the Marching Band, setting a festive tone before the main event—the ribbon-cutting ceremony. Surrounded by students, families, faculty, staff, and alumni, Superintendent Jeffrey Soles led the official dedication of the complex. His remarks honored the teamwork and vision that brought this long-awaited project to life.
“It is truly an honor to stand here today as we celebrate the official dedication of the newly renovated West Mifflin Area School District baseball and softball fields,” said Soles. “Today marks not only the completion of a remarkable project but also the beginning of a new era for our student-athletes, our school community, and the entire Titan family.”
Superintendent Soles highlighted the key upgrades to the complex, including brand-new artificial turf and advanced field lighting, both of which offer student-athletes a top-tier playing environment. He expressed deep gratitude to the many individuals and partners who contributed to the success of the project.
Special thanks were given to Director of Facilities Mark Zidek for his expert oversight, Athletic Director Lance Maha for his tireless advocacy, Assistant Superintendent Dr. Jeffrey Solomon for his leadership, and the WMASD School Board for their forward-thinking support. Soles also acknowledged partners NGU Sports Lighting and Hellas Construction for their exceptional craftsmanship and dedication.
“As we look around today, we see more than just turf and lights. We see opportunity. We see progress. And most importantly, we see a commitment to giving our students the very best—not just in their education but in every experience that helps shape who they are,” Soles said.
The day’s celebration continued with spirited competition on the new fields. The Lady Titans softball team took on Laurel Highlands in a tightly contested matchup. West Mifflin emerged victorious, winning 3–2. Pitcher Rylie Dobnak dominated the mound with 13 strikeouts and just three hits allowed over seven innings. Teammates Taylor Krivanek and Aubrey Jaskulski each drove in a run to secure the win, improving the team’s record to 7–3 overall and 5–0 in Section 2-4A play.
Simultaneously, the baseball team took on South Allegheny in a nonsection showdown, defeating the Gladiators 3–0. Hunter Horne led the Titans with five scoreless innings, giving up only two hits and striking out three while also going 2-for-3 at the plate. Jayvon Thompson added an RBI, and Justin Dillon closed out the game with two shutout innings to earn the save. The win pushed the Titans' record to 9–3 on the season.
The energy throughout the afternoon was electric, with students, alumni, and families cheering from the stands, celebrating both the athletic successes and the milestone moment for the district. The newly upgraded complex stood as a powerful symbol of investment in student success and community pride. The ribbon-cutting event was more than just the unveiling of a facility—it was the launch of a new chapter in WMASD history, one filled with potential, pride, and the unmistakable spirit of Titan Nation.
