WEST MIFFLIN, Pa.; March 14, 2025 — The weather couldn’t keep our alumni from returning to campus to celebrate Titian Evolution Alumni Madness on March 8, 2025. Over 125 alumni gathered to commemorate the improvements that are enhancing and evolving the facilities at West Mifflin. This year’s event highlighted the unveiling of the newly refreshed Athletic Hall, a space that embodies the energy and pride we have in our athletic program.
"The new hallway truly represents the Titan Evolution that is taking place in our District," said Assistant Superintendent Dr. Jeff Solomon. "It’s a testament to the pride we take in our athletes by creating a thriving culture for student growth and success."
The newly renovated Athletic Hall is more than just a hallway—it’s a celebration of West Mifflin’s rich athletics history and the students who have made it all possible. The long corridor now features several display cases showcasing a sea of trophies won over the years, game balls, and detailed information on MVP players who have helped build our legacy.
"This is a place where the past, present, and future of West Mifflin come together," said West Mifflin Athletic Director and current Alumni Association President Lance Maha (WMA ‘85). "Alumni engagement is crucial for building our community, and events like this allow us to reconnect with our roots while supporting the future of the district."
A generous gift of alumnus Louis "Ga-Ga" DuBois’ letterman jacket is also displayed in a specially designed case. A 1978 graduate, Ga-Ga made his mark lettering in Football, Basketball, and Baseball. He later returned to campus to serve as an athletic coach. His contributions to West Mifflin extended beyond his time as a student—he later returned to campus to serve as an athletic coach, helping shape the next generation of athletes. The letterman jacket, one of the three now proudly displayed, is a symbol of Ga-Ga’s enduring connection to the West Mifflin community.
Ga-Ga’s legacy is also carried on by his nephew, Assistant High School Principal Mark Bonacci (WMA '02), a distinguished athlete in his own right. Both share a deep connection to West Mifflin, representing the strong tradition of excellence that continues to thrive.
Looking Ahead: New Projects and Future Plans
West Mifflin will announce additional alumni events that are being planned to showcase even more of the district’s improvements. Upcoming events will include the rescheduled unveiling of the newly renovated baseball/softball complex and the newly rebuilt auditorium, which had previously experienced significant fire damage. These facilities are key parts of our continued commitment to providing the best resources for our students and community.
Alumni Games: A Battle Across Generations
The competitive spirit was alive and well as alumni took to the court to face off against the current West Mifflin teams. The alumni women played two exciting games against the current girls’ team, while the men were divided into three teams: up to 2005, 2006-2015, and 2016-2024. These teams squared off against the current boys' basketball team in some fast-paced action that brought the crowd to their feet.
Adding to the fun, alumnae cheerleaders brought their enthusiasm and school spirit, rallying the crowd alongside their daughters to cheer on the games.
All the Details: Student-Created Space with a Vision
The transformation of the Athletic Hall was a collective effort, with many individuals contributing to the success of the project. The West Mifflin Titan Shoppe played a pivotal role, designing, producing, and installing custom graphics and vinyl wraps throughout the space. Led by art teacher Brian Mann, the team worked with students to create dynamic designs that reflect Superintendent Jeffrey Soles' Titan Evolution vision—a vision that is shaping the future of West Mifflin Area School District.
The attention to detail extends beyond the graphics. Screens lining the hallway highlight key moments from past athletic events, showcasing the talent and achievements of our student-athletes. Additionally, custom radiator covers were skillfully built by Mark Zidek’s talented maintenance crew, adding an extra layer of care and craftsmanship to the newly refreshed space.
"Last year, creating the Alumni Hall allowed us to celebrate individuals that have accomplished significant milestones in academics and the arts,” said Dr. Solomon. “This year, it was a proud moment to show the same attention to our student athletes.”
